The Salt and Geobody Modeling plug-in builds volume-based salt representations at the reservoir-to-basin scale, that can be further used at any point of the exploration and production workflow. Triangle meshes corresponding to the salt surfaces can be extracted, and many 3D salt-related properties can be computed: distance, signed distance, polarity, dip angle and azimuth, uncertainty models.
  • The plug-in accepts interpretation data created in Petrel or imported from third-party software. The main target of the plug-in in terms of scale is the reservoir-to-basin scale and the associated reservoir characterization workflows.
  • Salt surfaces created by Petrel’s multi-z modeling tool can be used directly as an input to the plug-in’s volume-based modeling solution.
  • Interpretation data can be in depth or time. It is not mandatory to have 3D seismic cubes (seismic amplitude, seismic attributes) available to actually model the salt with the plug-in.
  • The created salt models cannot be directly incorporated into existing Structural Frameworks.
Users benefit from an innovative salt modeling workflow. The salt volume can be co-rendered with any seismic cube, maps of salt tops and horizons pierced by the salt can be easily created. Geobodies can be precisely included into 3D reservoir grids as properties. The uncertainty on the salt location can be modeled in 3D and be used to reduce the risk of drilling with salt.
