Name Core_Preservation
Entity Type Extension of Core
Description Core preservation activities are an attempt to maintain it, prior to analysis, in the same condition as existed upon its removal from the core barrel. In the process of cutting a core and bringing it to the surface, the fluid content of the rock is altered by unavoidable changes in pressure and temperature. Incorrect practices in preservation cause further alteration of the core and its fluids, making the core even less representative of the formation. Preservation methods target mechanical stabilization, prevention of fluid loss, or reduced contamination and are based upon rock type, degree of consolidation, and fluid type.
